A quick glance at Nintendo’s management & the ‘energy’ of Nintendo

was just curious if i saw anything popping up on the radar today because of the global market drop today, and after checking nintendo i came across this fun piece.

my favorite parts:When Yukan Fuji reportedly pointed out press coverage suggesting that the shortages that have historically plagued Wii supplies were strategy on the part of Nintendo, Iwata said that when he sees the articles, “I honestly feel sad. Game machine production amounts are set about half a year in advance, so they cannot be easily changed. The concept of the Wii is ‘a machine that makes people who play it smile.’ We wouldn’t use a strategy that is at odds with smiling. Getting as many people as possible to show us their smiles when playing a Nintendo game — that’s the energy source that drives us.”

and,

When prompted about his positive attitude, Iwata concluded, “Yes, I am super positive. In this business (being a company president) if you’re not positive, you’ll immediately get weakened and won’t be able to continue. Also, if I didn’t have a positive outlook, I definitely wouldn’t be able to say something like ‘expand the gaming population.’”

noteworthy is also Iwata’s comment that he wasn’t happy to have to increase the forecast of earnings. obviously he didn’t mean that making more money is the problem, but we can see the depth of precision nintendo as a company culture takes in understanding its market and, more importantly, its cash flow outlook.

I can appreciate the feel behind Iwata’s vision. It is clear that people who buy Nintendo, love Nintendo and that rarely comes from companies that are run the wrong way. He is genuine. I only see better times for Nintendo in the near future.
